Love the ergonomics of this radio vs UV-5R

If you want to use the Nagoya NA777 antenna you will either need to lower the plastic case or open a hole in the radio case. Radio. Otherwise the connection will not be established.

Pros
  • Test for a year
Cons
  • Suitable

Not exactly plug and play

This isn't a walkie talkie, you'll need to read up a bit on how to set it up and use it, after that they really are a great portable device for your next adventure on the trail . I bought 4 for use on a horseback ride I was leading to allow rigs that didn't have CB radios to communicate.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Negative impression

Pocket Full of Power

The ad said it was yellow but mentioned the radio was actually orange. Easily programmable via the keyboard. Went up and installed the first repeater in 20 minutes. Happy with my first impressions. I was looking for a multifunctional backup for my #1 PDA and found it at this price.

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • Hard to tell

Yes you can chirp

I just chirped my UV-S9. You need a programming cable (they usually come with the original UV-5R, I had one laying around) and you need to configure the Chirp to make the radio look like "UV-5R" - first load the factory data and save B "UV-S9 Factory" or something like that, then edit the variables to your liking (then save with a different filename) and make sure Chirp is set to UV-5R when loaded into the radio. This cheap little thing has literally the same firmware and channel memory scheme…

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • I really have no complaints about this, everything is fine
