Berard Olive Wood Handcrafted Round Cutting Review

As far as I can tell they didn't send me a bowl but a plate that wasn't made of olive wood. I did not return it as I can still use this item for my purposes.

This round cutting board is made of olive wood with a beautiful pattern. The board gets a lot of use so I recommend keeping it oiled. It would be nice if there was a small hole near the edge through which the board could be hung for others to see.

I really wanted to like this board. I have other Berard products that I enjoy using. The olive tree is fine, but the board is too small for most purposes. While you can see the dimensions online, it also has a beveled edge that reduces the amount of flat floor space. If you need a really small, beautiful board, then this is it! But I got mine back. If I had made it in a larger size I would have definitely ordered it.

Incredibly beautiful round plank, olive tree shows style. The diameter (9 inches) is very accurate - it snaps into the glass top of the cheese dome (the bottom is also glass - that's why I bought this board). It's not a solid piece of wood, but a constructed, hand-cut and glued piece is fine too (less prone to cracking). A bit expensive? Maybe compared to walnut or acacia. But beauty is worth something, isn't it?

This isn't a very large chopping board, but it's great for small jobs. The wood is very hard. It is not necessary for the plate to be thicker. It's lightweight and quick to rinse, tumble dry, and line dry if desired. Easy handling. The olive tree is something very special. From time to time I rub it with organic coconut oil (doesn't go rancid) and leave it in the warmth of the sun to soak it up. The forest is so beautiful that I am happy every time I look at it. This board was so disappointing I could give it zero stars if I could. First, the board is not made out of a single piece of wood as described. The board arrived today and it is clearly several pieces of wood glued together. And the surface of the board itself isn't even flat! There are potholes and grooves that need sanding to make them level. Also, there are a few dirty spots on the wood itself that need a complete sanding down to get rid of which is very disappointing overall. Obviously not…

I was expecting a beautiful Tunisian olive wood chopping board with a satin finish, treated with oil and wax as per the description. The chopping board I received has Berard's name engraved on it, is round and the right size. Everything else differs from the description. The one I have is made in Albania!
