Bernat Softee Baby Cotton YARN: Discover the Serenity of Dusk Sky Shades Review

Bernat ordered cotton by mistake. I needed acrylic. However, I will make it work with a different cotton yarn for a future project. The color was right for an Afghan dress I wanted to finish. I have worked with Bernat cotton in the past and this is my favorite brand when working with cotton.

I've been crocheting for over 60 years and I know what I like and don't like. This yarn is too smooth and stretchy. It doesn't stay in the ball. The hinges just slide out. It's too stretched. Won't hold stitches to pattern size. It expands. Might work for blankets, but don't try to make something that needs to be the right size, like a sweater.

As a celebrated snob, I was a little apprehensive when I realized it was a cotton/acrylic blend. Then I pulled it out of the box and after the first squeeze I'm done! If you remember the old ad for Charmin. I just wring the yarn out for an hour. It's sooooo soft and fluffy. Great stitch definition and it didn't tear on me.

The color is purple/lavender rather than periwinkle. The second problem is my fault. When I saw cotton and not cotton blend on the label, I didn't read the description carefully. It is 60% cotton 40% polyester. Not at all what I needed. I haven't taken them out of their plastic packaging yet as I don't know what I'm going to do with them yet. Also, it's a Chinese product, not a US one.
