I had the same problem until I realized that the manufacturer packages these plates in an inverted lid (to make shipping easier I think). If you try to install them as they come in the package you will never be able to close them. The manufacturer does not provide any written or visual instructions to avoid this error. I think these panels are one of the best options for screwless covers for sockets and switches. They completely cover the base so you don't see the split edge like other products. Wall panels are good when they work. They are held in place by a base plate that is bolted to the control box. I had one where the top plate would not stay on or snap onto the mounting plate. It was uncomfortable. But then I slightly pushed in the 4 tabs on the top panel. It worked and now it snaps into place and looks great.
