Originally bought 1 pair which arrived after listening with the current configuration set up to connect a Sony CD player to the preamp. Preset - AR LS 26, Amplifier - Krell 300cx Martin Logan Request speakers with a Velodyne 18 DD subwoofer. The cable used is a Kimber PBJ with balanced Neutrik gold connectors. As soon as I introduced The Serpent II XLR, I noticed a difference to the Kimber PBJ. While the overall tone improved, the Serpent made a big difference in the top end. The top is much…

Good cable, great price! So far, so good.

I needed another set of XLR cables after buying a set of Martin Logal ESL X speakers, which can (and seem to need to) be bi-directional, my latest speakers (Wilson Audia Sophia) allowed and did not need a two-channel amplifier. I have many other very good cables (mainly Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Oval, Micro Oval and Silver Oval In, RCA) but right now I don't want to spend a lot of money on another one in XLR. I tried connecting the RCA and XLR connectors (different channels) from the preamp to

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Functionality

Update: I've been using this cable for a while, just changed my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars! The whole system was turned on and baked for a day. The pretty front soundstage with the old cable has literally "shifted" and opened up with the new cable. The speakers are definitely gone completely. The sound is very thin, detailed and fast. At first I was a little worried about the tonal balance; it is now very neutral and easy to hear. Even my wife noticed the sound improvement. It seems to be…

Pros
  • Nice
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

These are solid cables. They're well built, attractive, and loaded with just the right amount of catchphrase and snake oil to satisfy any audiophile still clinging to a rational plan. It will be difficult for the unreasonable audiophile to justify them because they are relatively cheap, don't come with many truly exotic components and materials, and because "Better Cables Dot Com" doesn't sound as appealing as the brand and model names associated with the product will be shipped at a cost of…
