The shelf mounts easily with just two drywall anchors. The problem is that the drywall anchors aren't long enough and strong enough to hold the cat shelf. I took this video of my cats looking at it and as you can see one of my younger boys jumps on it and it's totally off the wall. The shelf itself is nice, but I would have preferred it curved more around the cat. If you buy this, go to the hardware store and get longer, stronger drywall anchors.

My cats love it. I have one side of the rug up and the other side of the rug down. The problem is installing them as the pre-drilled holes are not 16" apart. This is a problem because you have to screw them into the wall studs, NOT the drywall, because if the cats climb and jump over them, the screws will loosen and the kitten will fall off. 1 x 4 pieces of wood 16 inches apart. Then screw these cute cat bars to it.

I like the way they look. However, it is very easy to install one of the perches in just about 24 hours. I followed the instructions, used the screws and anchors provided, and my 6 lb cat climbed it a second time and it came right out of the wall. The other one is still in the wall but not sure how much it has been used. If the instructions recommended finding the bolt before installing it, he might still have stood up. EDIT: I bought some anchors and screws at a hardware store and they did the job. The screws aren't long enough to hold this, nor are the anchors. Due to the thickness of the shelf, the screw itself only comes out an inch at the other end. I tested it by putting two 8lb dumbbells on it (my heaviest cat is 14lbs) and one of the drywall anchors literally burst out of the wall! The other stayed, but the screw came out immediately. Overall these cat shelves are ok. but I decided to purchase additional materials to make them safe for my 12 lb cat. The screw holes on the shelf are 10.5 inches apart at the top, and I only had one center post for the intended location of the first. I don't trust anchors in my wall so I attached a board to a post and attached a cat. I wanted another cat shelf on the side of the table (to keep them from walking on the table while my husband is working) so I drilled two holes in the side and…

These cat shelves should be very good once I have done all the work to install as required which will take a little time. . When I bought them I was hoping that they would come with brackets as shown in some of the pictures at the time of ordering but they only arrived as a shelf. I gave up on plain plastic anchors, knowing from common experience and other reviews that they were useless, and tested them with my regular 50 lb screw anchors.
