Low SWR at 2m and 70cm with no good ground.

For attachment to a motorhome ladder without a metal roof. Had a similar but more expensive comet antenna that had poor reflection at 2m. I can't say anything about the range, but my radio won't burn out.

Improper Profit.

I'm a bit disappointed with this antenna. Judging by its geometry, I was expecting around 5dB of gain at 450MHz. It is very inferior to the old Comet tri-band mobile antenna I have for comparison. The quality seems to be good. It offers acceptable agreement at 146 and 450 MHz. Unfortunately, the increase is not enough for my needs.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Some small things

Mounted on an NMO mount on the metal roof of a 5x5 foot truck, this is the correct ground plane. The SWR was 2.5 or higher on the 2M and 440 UHF bands. The whip is too short. I replaced a similar but longer rod from another dual band 2m/440 ham band antenna. This is advertised as a ham radio antenna but it isn't or it should be pointed out that to be successful it is placed over a lousy ground plane. The black pin in the picture attached to the base caused an SWR below 1.7 on both bands with a…
