Waiting for practical test

It now gets a star. I haven't been able to test it and it appears to be a copy of one of the other antenna types. We'll see, update the review once I can take a look

Pros
  • Robust construction
Cons
  • Negative impression

Don't buy if you want to keep it folded!

I used this antenna at the railway, the reception was a bit better from afar! I couldn't keep it on my laptop so I left it folded in my bag and took it out last week and noticed the antenna was broken, it's not meant to work on a railway! A bit disappointed!

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • I will add later

Much improved

I couldn't leave my apartment with a standard antenna or a quality dual band wand on my UV-82X. Put this thing on and I get complete low power silence. It's long, but you knew what was in it. Seems a little fragile, not recommended for use where it can be dragged.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Baofeng UV-5R on CB and Radio

Baofeng UV-5R definitely works, the only thing is that it doesn't stay flush with the radio, I'm constantly in a desert field and I suspect that through the lack of rinsing dirt particles can get into the antenna connection. I hope I can find one that is smooth. I'm not sure if it extended the range, but FM stations sound clearer.

Pros
  • Best of its niche
Cons
  • Hard to say

My 15 " antenna consistently gives better reception

So you want to use a ham radio station on a budget? Baofeng is the only acceptable cheap thing to buy. This antenna looked solid, very similar to other antennas. but it's absolute rubbish. Folded or fully extended, my 15" TIDRADIO antenna works better and came with a $168 budget Baofeng kit I found here. 5 x 8 watt radios and 5 x 15" antennas with USB programming key (am just a beginner). Invest in your gear, if you want it to work I'll send it back.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

42.5 " model failed basic antenna test

I bought this for my backup Baofeng GT-30 and possibly my GMRS radios. all. SWR was high on the 2M and 70cm bands. It wasn't tuned to those tapes. So bad that I don't even bother with Rx/Tx testing. Just not worth lugging around. I was hoping for a solid long range antenna for my HT - this isn't it. For those who ask if it can be used folded - no. It's bad enough just up, and when it's folded it gets a whole lot worse.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other models

42.5 " model failed basic antenna test

I bought this for my backup Baofeng GT-30 and possibly my GMRS radios. I put it in my Agilent network analyzer and it didn't work at all. "On the 2M and 70cm bands the SWR was high. It's not tuned to those bands. It's bad enough that I don't even bother with Rx/Tx testing. It's just not worth lugging around." I was hoping for a solid long range." The antenna for my HT is not the right one. It's just bad enough, but folding it makes it worse.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Pretty ok
