This is the perfect tape for mending torn tolex on musical instrument cases. I've used duct tape before (because it has good texture and doesn't leave a sticky feel). But of course, the crimson tape is designed to come loose, so it needs to be replaced regularly. A friend suggested to me that you need a binder. He's right. I bought this tape to hide the sun damaged interior of the car I bought. Regular vinyl and "pipeline" style tape will wrinkle when exposed to extreme temperatures in the car, and the sheen of vinyl doesn't really match that. It's a nice flat black tape with great adhesive, it doesn't wrinkle when applied correctly and still holds up great.
