Instructions are lacking!

Not very impressed! This game was well thought out but very very very confusing! I have no idea how they can put souch thought into the ge but fail to tell you clearly how to play it.

Pros
  • The thrill and challenge of an escape room meets the experience and world-immersion of a movie!
Cons
  • Game pieces can be easily lost or misplaced

Really fun, especially for beginners

Very unique concept and I love how new places are revealed. BIg plus that you don't need to use an app or a website to proceed. Puzzles are definitely on the easy side.

Pros
  • Board Games
Cons
  • May not be challenging enough for experienced gamers

Great concept but not fun

Ordered for a date night in. The directions make zero sense and we ended up watching a video by one of the creators to get started. Each card read made little sense and we found ourselves constantly having to read the clue to move on. Great concept but very hard to play without either watching how to videos online or without reading the hint cards every single time

Pros
  • Patent pending
Cons
  • Requires 3-6 players to play, may be difficult to find a group

Fun but requires some work.

I would have given 5 stars except this game did seems as though some puzzles were a little bit of a stretch. That said loved the concept and gameplay with the game board. Would give another escape game like this a try.

Pros
  • Allows users to feel like they've accomplished something worthwhile
Cons
  • May not be as entertaining as more popular board games

A genius concept with an imperfect execution

I love the idea of this game. It feels very much like an "at home escape room," with a variety of puzzles to solve in order to complete a story. And the narrative in this particular puzzle, involving breaking in to Alcatraz in order to help prisoners escape, while fairly straightforward, is actually an excellent choice of story. Inspired by true events (though certainly embellished in the extreme), the story is actually quite entertaining and provides a unifying theme for the various…

Pros
  • Enhances communication and interpersonal skills
Cons
  • May be too similar to other puzzle games

Super fun! - my new review

We have done pretty much every available "at home" escape room there is, and we consider this one a top-tier quality. We can't wait for the rest to come out!

Pros
  • Toys & Games
Cons
  • Expensive compared to other board games

Something to pass time

We played this and it took about 2.5 hours to get through it all. There were a couple parts we could not figure out (even with the solution). It was entertaining. You can put it back together and give it to someone else to play.

Pros
  • Stimulates the participant's curiosity and thirst for knowledge
Cons
  • May not be as interactive as other board games

Don't bother best in my review

We've played a number of "escape room at home" games from several publishers, and this one was, by a wide margin, the worst. The puzzles were nonsensical and the directions vague. The novelty of the unfoldable box doesn't come close to making up for poorly designed puzzles.Go check out the Exit or Unlock lines instead.

Pros
  • Love this game! Fun and easy
Cons
  • Loved the design! Very poorly beta tested. Confusing direction and lack of direction.

Great design! Not so great execution

We loved the design of the game and the way it unfolds as you break in. There was a variety of puzzles, but we found them to be very challenging. Definitely more challenging than a 2/4 difficulty rating. We also felt like there was way too much writing. The puzzles were introduced with paragraphs, and did not always provide clear instructions of what we were supposed to be doing next. It took a lot longer to play than we thought it would. Great design. Not great execution.

Pros
  • Provides a fun and constructive recreational activity
Cons
  • May be too lengthy for some players

Awesome game best in my review

Love this, played with four people. Obviously it is a one-time game. Wish there were others in the series. That's my feedback!

Pros
  • Great for team building exercises or family bonding
Cons
  • May be too challenging for those with limited knowledge of the history of Alcatraz

Unclear Directions at Start

After enjoying real escape rooms and boxed escape rooms from other companies, we didn’t enjoy this one nearly as much. The story line is fun, but it is at times hard to decide what the different puzzles are asking you to do and what could be involved in solving the puzzles. Some were fine though. We spent more time squinting at small, dark pictures/areas than we’d prefer. We did appreciate though that the hints weren’t immediately available on the hint cards, but could be revealed if desired.

Pros
  • 1.04 pounds
Cons
  • May be confusing to some players

AMAZING DESIGN AND STORY!

I'm not usually moved to write reviews for products, but I need to make an exception here. I ordered this game to help wrestle the family away from the digital realm for a few hours and am really glad I did. Not only am I impressed with the game play, but the playing board itself it exceptional. It's beautiful, functional and engaging!I also learned something . . . I was surprised to learn that this game, in part, is based on actual events, AND I LIVE IN THE BAY AREA! Shameful, I know.We had a…

Lots of fun. once. on my review.

I bought this to have a little bit of fun with my now work from home significant other during the pandemic. It was a lot of fun and had just the right amount of challenge. My only issue is you can only really play it once, however, you can treat it like the holiday fruitcake and pass it around so others can enjoy it.

Pros
  • Ideal for parties and social gatherings
Cons
  • May be too easy for gamers who enjoy challenging games

I thought we could play this game for our family game night. We ended up giving up as it just didn’t make sense to us. Thanks for attention!

Pros
  • Perfect for people who love a good mystery
Cons
  • May feel repetitive to some

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Can only play it once.

It was a fun game. It took several hours of family fun to solve it. Unfortunately that is it. You only solve it once and done. Not worth the 30.00 it cost for a one time game.

Pros
  • Non-violent and appropriate for all audiences
Cons
  • May be too slow-paced for some players

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Convoluted, nearly impossible gameplay

My spouse and I play all sorts of mystery games- even those made for far more advanced players. This game is so convoluted that we couldn’t even get the gameplay instructions straight. For each segment, you need to find a completely unrelated color,Number, and symbol. These 3 items have very little to do with the story and are simply found by comparing found clues to other materials included. Such as 3rd floor = blue (etc.)The instructions are terrible and the lack of a cohesive narrative are…

Pros
  • Provides hours of entertainment and mental stimulation
Cons
  • Theme may be too dark for some players
