The peculiarity of this lamp is that the lampshade is not very high. It really only blocks the bulb at very specific angles. Any adult who passes by the lamp gets an eye off the lamp. The same as on the bedside table. The shade cover is not enough to protect your eyes from the bulb when looking at it. I'll leave him alone for a week and see if I can get used to him, but he'll probably come back. Edit: Now I'm used to it in the room. I'm giving it an extra star because it's growing on me.

Nice base but the lampshade is junk. Thought it was a decent lamp at first but after only 2 months the lampshade detached from the cheap glue/velcro seam and no longer stays wrapped around the lampshade frame. The glue that attaches the velcro to the lampshade doesn't hold (and even at first the velcro wasn't strong enough to pull the lampshade elastically). This is a horrible design to put on shades and after only 2 months it's falling apart.

Although easy to assemble, this lamp is not very bright (certainly not bright enough to read) and is so poorly constructed that it is easy to break after assembly. I carefully grabbed both sides of it and tried to straighten the stem so that the top of the lampshade was exactly parallel to the floor (like any decent lamp) and the whole lamp just fell apart in my hands.
