Good, inexpensive way to install an SSD

Used this board to install an Oemgenuine 256GB M.2 PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVMe SSD Samsung PM981, (2280) MZVLB256HAHQ SSD. It was easy to install on my Asus Pro Gen 3 motherboard. Unlike others, I had to change the BIOS to make the motherboard boot from the SSD. There is a BIG article on the Win Raid forums webpage that describes the whole process if the motherboard has an Intel 6 series chipset or higher. If you only want to use it for storage, Win10 has an NVMe driver built into the operating system…

Works Computer Components

Installing on the computer was easy. I have a little hesitation about installing an SSD on the board. The locking screw prevents it from popping out but doesn't hold it securely in place. When the screw is fully tightened, my samsung evo plus can still move back and forth and you can push it into the board.

This thing blew a diode when it was first turned on.

There was a lot of smoke and noise when first powered on. I was pretty sure I fried my new NVME card and/or motherboard. Luckily it was just a diode on this adapter card. After researching these things a bit, there really must be a capacitor somewhere in the circuit to regulate the voltage. It is not. For a few bucks more you can buy one that does. Please rather spend a few euros more and avoid that.

Fits x4, x8, x16 slots (at x4)

Plain simple PCIe NVMe adapter. Have used it with key-M pcie nvme m.2 SSDs of different brands. Suitable for pciex4, x8 or x16 slots but as far as I know it only works on x4. The cutouts allow it to hang over the x4 slot. The speed is sufficient for my purposes. I haven't noticed any overheating of the SSD with light usage. I can use it as a boot drive on some of my computers, but one day I found it a little temperamental in adding a second one when I already had another as a boot drive. I…

It just works! the best in computers and accessories

Despite the low price, this adapter works well in my system with Asus Prime B450M-A and Intel Intel SSD 660p. Although the motherboard has an M.2 slot, using it reduces the number of SATA connections by 2. Since I'm using a Ryzen 5 2400G IGP, it frees up a PCIe slot for use with this adapter. An added benefit of using this adapter is that it makes the M.2 more detachable and portable than screwing it to the motherboard. It's much easier for me to switch the boot disk to another operating system
