This is the ONLY element socket I will be using from now on

I've been a plumber since 1982 and have always used a standard stamped steel element socket to replace a water heater element. They never lasted too long and were very difficult to use at times. After all these years, I finally came across a few elements that I couldn't remove with the various methods I've used over the years. I ordered this socket on Friday, received it on Sunday and my customer's items were replaced on Monday at 8:00 am after spending about 15 minutes at his home. This head…

When you do housework. You need this outlet

If you need to replace the heating element for your electric water heater, the answer is yes! There's an outlet somewhere. But this is a specific tool for a specific job. I originally started with a cheap stuck object removal tool ($6) but it didn't work. Then I bought an outlet ($10) on the left and it didn't work. Why? The socket bought at the hardware store is narrowed on the inside, which makes it impossible to grab the heating element. The nest on the right is not narrow enough to fit…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

If it deleted mine, it can delete anyone.

After 13 years, after realizing that my house's 50 gallon water heaters were completely out of order, I pulled out my old trusty outlet. You know, stamped out of a thin-walled tube with a hole for a long screwdriver or tube so you can twist it. Well after slipping a few times and worrying that I would round the edges, the curvature caused the nest to be shaped like an egg and was now unusable. I tried a few regular outlets I had but it didn't happen. None of the rosettes had a square shoulder…

Pros
  • Nice Design

Removed elements from 20 years ago

Thanks to people who shared their experiences on the internet, I decided to replace the elements of the water heater myself. Only one part was bad, but I decided to replace both while I was at it (it's an 80 gallon tank). My problem was that the old elements got stuck and these elements have a very thin hex head so every socket I had just slipped off. When I bought this socket, I hoped that everything would be fine. That didn't work at first because the elements clamped like they were welded on

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Discontinued model

Better quality than expected

I'm an HVAC technician for a utility company, formerly a small HVAC plumber. I replaced quite a lot of water heating elements. The shop I worked at supplied a 3/4 drive head and breaker. Worked great and the weight of the tool made it easy to loosen and tighten. It's sad to see it being left behind. The utility company provides a lot of tools, but their supplier sends a stamped sheet metal tool to remove items, even though I ordered the outlet shown in the catalog. I've used the sheet metal…

Pros
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Not working well
