Works as advertised. I saw other complaints about the rating. I secured my rack with straps and they carry most of the weight of the post. It doesn't bend or stand up like I did, you can easily carry more weight than advertised. I would improve it by adding grommets to the top hooks so they fit snugly to the rungs of the stairs. I put foam on the crossbar to achieve this.

Use it to hold my 2 person weightless chair which is quite large. I have also bought larger straps and will be photographing this combination in the future. The stand seems pretty solid and seems to hold up, but time will tell. My only complaint so far is that the lock holes seem too small to fit a quality lock. I have yet to be able to find a security solution for the items I store outside. I will follow after the first trip with him.

I bought this knowing that additional welding would be required to make it work properly. First, I couldn't make this frame for what they charge for it. Knowing this, I added gussets to the 90° brace to keep them from sagging or straightening out when weight is added. If you don't own a welder or know someone, I would probably discard this item as its design is flimsy. The one I modified worked great after 2000 miles.

Where to start? Firstly, it is difficult to put hooks on the stairs, but that is not the main problem. You have to take the case apart to put it on the ladder, well all the screws were cross threaded so I went to the hardware store to get new nuts and bolts. Although not very strong, it usually holds folding chairs. Not sure I would bet more than a kids bike on it. However, I had to tie it to the ladder at the four corners to keep it in place. One problem and the reason I removed the star is that unless you REALLY hang it high on the stairs you'll bang your head on it. I have done this several times as it is very thin and difficult to see in low light. And it's smart. Next time I'll wrap it with protective tape to get my attention.

After installing my own chair stand for the first time, I wanted to replace it with something more professional that takes up minimal space and is easy to put on and take off. I've read complaints that they can bend over time under heavy loads so I ordered enough to fold them in half. I taped the folded ones together with overlapping tape so they now act as a single bracket. To enable me to sleep at night, I hooked on a strap that runs from the center of the front crossbeam to the center of the rung of the ladder the device was hanging from (or the rung above).
