I'm not a pro and I love it!

From the point of view of a serious enthusiast, this is really cool stuff. The price has come down lately (because Canon just released a new wireless transmitter I think) so I bought it. I like it a lot, I don't do much flash photography but now I see the potential for some really creative shots with it. Reliable, compact and lightweight, it works great even when out of range of the remote flash. I don't have a studio setup and I know that a radio transmitter like the Pocket Wizard is more…

Pros
  • Rugged finish
Cons
  • Pretty much everything is fine

Canon ST-E2 Speedlite Flash Transmitter

Well I was very wary of buying this item as it was overpriced, typical Canon sales. I was very surprised with the unit (make sure you buy a 2CR5 battery) The unit is very easy to use, you set the flash to slave mode, attach the ST-E2 to the camera's hot shoe and lock it in place in this position, turn on the device and now you can use the device. I wish I had bought it at the same time as my 580ex flash, I've used a Canon OC-E2 cable off camera for a while and recently hacked it so I could…

Good access to external flash control

I was reading Strobist ([.]) and was looking for inspiration to take the flash off the camera. I have used one of Gary Fong's light spheres with excellent results for the occasional portrait at a meeting or event. But for more formal portraits I'd like to be able to use side lighting but still keep it simple and mobile. Goal 1 was to take the flash off the camera and put it on the stand. I considered going the more expensive radio route but decided it would be fine for the first round. So far…

good for money buy cheap!

I used to want this little transmitter but never bought it as it was a little too expensive for the performance I was supposed to expect. Since this guy is now a small dinosaur, I was able to get hold of him at a very reasonable price and try him out with little risk. I'm happy to report that this transmitter works much better than I thought it would. At a recent wedding I was able to easily pilot a 580EX Speedlite in a Westcott Rapid Box Octa and took some very nice pictures of the cake…
