Description of Carolina Cricket/Roach Waterer: Enhance Hydration with 1 Replacement Sponge

We’ve tried all the alternatives and this works for us! Simply put it’s a practical solution to keeping your crickets and / or roaches supplied with water. No more smelly potatoes, messy water gels or weekly expenses. The sponge wicks the water up and the crickets or roaches drink off the surface. Crickets don’t drown themselves as they would in a water dish. DIRECTIONS: You fill the reservoir up with water, screw on the base and sponge (upside down), then turn the waterer right-side up and wet the sponge THOROUGHLY under the sink faucet. Push the sponge into the “trough” of the base; making good contact with the holes where the water seeps in. Place the waterer LEVEL in your cricket/roach tub or the water may overflow the lower side’s edge. Add some substrate (egg flats) around the waterer to make it easier for the crickets or roaches to get to. Waterer usually needs to be refilled or topped off every 3-6 days. Good idea to rinse out the sponge thoroughly and even use some chlorhexidine sprayed on for general hygiene. Waterer measures 8-5/16” tall and 6” diameter. This will fit into a 56 quart or a 106 quart tub; which is what we use to keep our crickets and roaches in. Anything smaller than a 56 quart volume makes it likely that a significant number of your crickets will die prematurely; from smothering each other or from sweating to death by not getting enough ventilation. Sponges typically last 6 to 8 months. Waterer comes with an extra sponge. Additional replacement sponges are available in packs of three. Carolina Custom Cages is a division of Carolina Designer Dragons, Inc.

The perfect answer to watering crickets!

This is wonderful. The crickets are so happy. Is working. The water will only drain if the bottom is uneven or something sticks out in the pan. This solves my cricket watering years. Thank you!

Pros
  • Build quality
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Doesn't do what it's supposed to.

I put a star because I can't put zero. Bought two of these. When the water was about halfway up, it just kept flowing. Killed about 200 roaches by wet egg cartons. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

Pros
  • A sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • There are nuances

Yellow Round Sponge Doesn't absorb water

I liked how your yellow sponges dried up even in a container full of water. I had to wet the top of the sponge every day. Replaced your sponge and made mine which works. When re-ordering, use a softer sponge with capillary action.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Almost never

Cheap Quality Drowning Leaked Crickets

Product leaked and killed (drowned) over 700 crickets I had in my storage bin despite correct listing. I had good experience with another brand many years ago but this product is cheap quality and overpriced for what you get. Very disappointed with this purchase.

The smell of rotting meat!

Impossible not to spill! The sponge floats in the water but doesn't absorb it! In the 3 days he was kept in our completely odorless Dubia roach colony (which has never had the slightest smell in the 7 months we have) the odor from the waterer smelled like rotting meat. The worst thing I've ever bought!

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Some problems

This is the best source of water for my small pets that I have.

This is the best water source I have ever had for my small pets. It even outperforms water gel for purity and time before I need to refill. The sponge is easy to clean even when covered with coconut fiber litter or potting soil. I currently use it for large hissers and small crickets.

This product drowned my roaches in the feeder.

I breed dubia cockroaches. I used to use water crystals for this before, but I gave this product a try. I followed all instructions and installed correctly. This thing spilled overnight and drowned my poor roaches! I have invested tons of time and money into this colony and am incredibly disappointed to see it destroyed by a terrible product!

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Good but not great
