I just used this on a project that I couldn't do because with a flashlight and a magnifying glass I didn't have my hands free to actually work on my project. The light is very bright and this small 3.5x magnifier is very handy. I gave it four stars for the plastic pin on the clip - it seems to break very easily. You could probably use a metal bar for the same price.

This lamp is almost perfect for my application. The quality of the lens is clearly acceptable, but I shoot the star because of the insufficient brightness of the LEDs. It's hard to explain why the manufacturer didn't use brighter and/or more LEDs as these are readily available. The good thing is that it can be powered by batteries. I keep this as a permanent fixture in my eclectic home office.

OK so this magnifying glass has a plastic lens (wish I had noticed that before buying but mine is poor as the price indicates a plastic lens and not glass) but an even bigger surprise was that, when I went to "mount" the magnifier on my desktop, the clamp didn't open wide enough to fit a 2x4 (two inch side that's actually about 1 3/4 inches). This would be a great creative magnifier. I don't have to use light on it, but it might be nice if you need extra light for detail. I installed it on my computer desk to the right of my elbow. It works the way I hoped it would. If I really need to read fine print that's too small for my glasses, I can drag the thing down and over the topic, read it, and print it out on my computer at the same time. The lens on this magnifier is made of cheap plastic and is easily scratched. The clip that attaches to the shelf has a plastic or soft metal post that the magnifier attaches to. After three months of use I pulled the loupe towards me and the stem broke off rendering the loupe completely unusable.
