Great value for money, unlike the HOB filter it doesn't stick out at the back and takes up little space inside and outside the tank so I can easily hide it! The supply/return pipes are black and go well with the black painted tank. EXCELLENT WATER FLOW - Lots of gallons per minute, easy to fill and adjust flow speed and direction. I love the ability to customize the filter media and use cheap homemade hand cut filter pads.

The last canister filter I had was an old 1990's Marineland Magnum 350, mostly trouble free, that used to be tethered to an Eheim blank filter. It ran for almost 10 years with a biannual cleaning before becoming a major maintenance issue. Needless to say, I have been using or buying an external filter for a number of years. First experiences with an external filter - why didn't I know that earlier?

So... 1 new 75 gallon tank with about 60 gallons of water, 1 very dirty turtle to be fed from the tank, 1 new Cascade 1000 filter with only filter media and 1 person with no canister experience I just knew that I was fed up with the smelly, muddy water in his old 55 gallon aquarium with only an aquarium filter and didn't want to repeat that experience.Unfortunately we had to move the turtle to a new tank about 3 days before the filter arrived so how As you can see from the first two "before"…

Cascade 1000 Rocks is a great purchase at an affordable price - thoughtfully built not to break - very easy to refill

I have a 13 inch Pleco guppy, a bunch of Texas map turtles and some other stuff in a 75 gallon aquarium that needed the flow filter removed. I left and when I got home it smelled awful and I couldn't even see through the water. Pleco was supposed to be standing by the window just so I could see him.
