Cheap, thin, individual

This cable uses much finer strands than usual. While the newer ANSI/TIA-568 standard (ANSI/TIA-568.2-D) recognizes 28 AWG patch cords, the older standards do not. There is no manufacturer identification or other technical information on the cable. It just says "Cat5E UTP PATCH CORD TIA/EIA 568B". Note that "TIA/EIA 568B" probably only refers to the pin order as I don't understand why this cable can't be compatible with the previous EIA 568-B.2 standard version.

Pros
  • New in my collection
Cons
  • old

Literally the worst I have ever bought on this site

Literally the worst I have ever bought on this site. It hardly offers an internet connection. Great for testing if something works, it has a length! But not enough speed. I had less than 1 Mbit/s LAN connection to my router! Had to go back to my old bad cable, at least it gave me 10MB and 100MB on a good day.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

The cable pictured is NOT what you will receive! deceptive!

As others have said, THIS IS NOT A NORMAL 24 GAUGE CAT5E. The picture shows a normal gauge cable, but that's a lie. I dragged it around things, caught the sharp edge and cut it off. Thought I'd fix it but it doesn't look like copper and is half the thickness of a .24. It will not fit into a perforated CAT5e port. I don't trust this product. I do not recommend. For the same price I bought the real offer at Big Box Orange. For just a few dollars, you can upgrade to CAT6 at BBO without having toโ€ฆ

  • Pleasant to use

Long inexpensive reliable cable

I needed an ethernet cable to run from my modem downstairs to my computer upstairs, which doesn't support Wi-Fi (and is sometimes used on my laptop as well, as my modem isn't the strongest). It's definitely been long enough! There were no connection problems either. The only downside is that it feels a little flimsy. So if you are looking for something hard wearing/long lasting this may not be it. Mine rises and rotates close to the ceiling and stays in place so I'm not too concerned about wear

Pros
  • Handy thing
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Ultra-thin cable surprised us

This is a THIN cable! It seems to carry signals well, although we don't have any test equipment, but it's about the size of a 10 or 12 gauge insulated cable. MUCH smaller than the regular Cat 5, Cat 5e, or Cat 6 cable we see in the bought past . The price reflects that of course you can expect some difference. Of the three lengths we bought all passed the test after we put them through their routes but gosh they were flimsy so be aware.

Pros
  • Constant test results

communication with Mars.

Required internet connection at my business (separate from home) which took about 180 feet. I didn't want to buy a 500ft reel in a box so I settled on this cable. As mentioned in other reviews, this is a VERY thin Cat5 cable. I had no trouble pulling it through 80 feet of pipe, but I can see where it can kink and break if you're not careful, or it can break just by pulling. Running from room to room or something like that would be fine I think, but if you want something more permanent, spend aโ€ฆ

Poor performance is best with cables and connectors

I didn't have much Cat5e so I grabbed this cable (100ft) as a quick solution to hooking up an IP security camera. The cable was surprisingly thin and flexible compared to regular Cat5e. After setting it up I found that the throughput of the camera is just terrible compared to two identical cameras with custom made cables. The camera itself may have failed somehow, but I figured the obvious test would be to replace the other cable - problem solved. At Cables Direct, the camera's live timestampโ€ฆ
