Installed and forgotten until you empty the recycle bin. Note that the manufacturer suggests that you unplug before emptying the bin (I assume this is to avoid bin-level IR sensor errors). There are many sensors on this device, including a collision sensor, so don't rely on them. Mine came with a panel offset from the front, but that doesn't interfere with normal operation, so I'm not worried about that. Otherwise the fit and finish is good. VERY QUIET. Time affects the total cost.

I was very pleased to receive this tray and it initially worked great! However, after 2 weeks it stopped working automatically. I could still use it in manual mode but for the money I've spent it should work all the time. I emailed customer service and it took a week for them to get back to me. I had a Litter Robot 3 weeks ago and it was a total failure. You don't fall asleep with heavy junk, you can't put a mat, the sensor breaks after a day and you have to manually reset it, etc. So I sent it back after 2 weeks of use.
