The mesh panels are lined with fabric inside to protect the foot from the mesh, but it is not a soft fabric. Children complain that their feet rub very unpleasantly when they walk. This is unlike other water shoes we have (like the Speedo) where the inner fabric over the mesh sections is soft/low friction. Also, adjusting the size on the back makes it difficult to put the shoe on. If you pull on it to get your foot in, it will close your mouth and make your job much more difficult.

I think these shoes run small. My son wears 1 1/2 shoes in his tennis shoes so I ordered 2 in these shoes. His fingers were at the end. They were good for our trip but definitely weren't shoes for more than one season. Also, they are not of very good quality. On the 4th day of wearing on the beach, the soles of the shoes came off completely. One leg now looks like flippers, and the other pair is dangling from the toes. Disappointing to say the least. Construction: They are built to fit adult water boots. They have good traction with the sole and good elasticity in the part where the foot enters. Fit: shoes arrived and we tried them on our 2.5 year old right away. They were very tight, more like a 6 or 6.5, and the next day at the water park, after a while he wanted to take them off.
