Works great - and saved 19 hours of MiniDV footage!

This bilingual cable could connect an old Sony DCR-TRV10 camcorder with a 4-pin FireWire 400 port to a mid-2012 MacBook Pro with a 9-pin FireWire 800 port (unlike another similar one Cable). cable I bought that said it was NOT bilingual) which saved me about 19 hours of footage from old MiniDV cassettes.

Pros
  • HIGH SPEED: Connect Firewire 800 devices to legacy 1394a ports. Offers PC and Mac compatibility. Offers data transfer rates of up to 800 Mbit/s. Supports plug n play, hot plug.
Cons
  • New Competitors Arrived

That didn't work for me.

I haven't been able to get this cable to work yet. I bought this along with an adapter to connect a computer to a Sony Hi8 VCR for video archiving. Normally my software recognizes Sony and can even control playback. This doesn't currently work .I plan to try again when I have more time.

Pros
  • COMPATIBLE with digital cameras, SLR cameras, imaging cameras, camcorders such as Canon 1ds Mark 2, Canon GL2 or Panasonic Pro AG-DVX100B SONY Handycam DCR-IP5 camcorder connected to Apple MacBook Pro, iMAC 27" Mac Pro PC
Cons
  • May cause harm

You shouldn't do without quality here

I hate giving a product only one star when I was obviously looking for value for money, but this cable just didn't work. I connected my DV camcorder via a 4 pin connector to my mini mac via a 9 pin connector. I was able to control the camera from the Mac but could never get it to transfer data. I suspect it was a sloppy 9 pin connection or loose wires. Thank you Revain for the hassle free return of the cable. I immediately ordered the Apple recommended cable from Belkin and it worked straight…

Pros
  • ERROR-FREE data transmission thanks to molded strain relief and PVC injection moulding. Offers ultra-high data transfer rates thanks to twisted pairs and maximum speed without data loss.
Cons
  • too dumb

Do not buy this cable! Buy an alternative.

I bought this cable and tried to use it to connect my old Sony Handycam HDR-HC7 to my late 2011 MacBook Pro but it didn't work at all, nor would it shut down or boot up properly while the cable was plugged in (it froze until the cable was plugged in!) I returned the Revain cable and decided to try again with a different manufacturer's cable and everything started working as soon as I plugged in a different cable! So BUY DO NOT USE THIS CABLE I used the Revain's Choice cable found at the…
