Low cost and affordability versus self-doubt

I just replaced the cartridges that came with my HP LaserJet M283 MFP with True Image cartridges. I ordered True Image toner for 2 reasons: 1. HP didn't stock any of the colors (I don't know how they allowed that?) 2. The price of True Image toner cartridges is significantly lower than the OEM price. assuming you're ready for a DIY chip transfer project. I consider myself so skilled that after watching online videos the DIY process seemed doable. Two small questions: 1. Be careful of the…

Yellow tint on one side

EDIT: I'm getting a smear of all three colors on my copies now. My new printer has never had any problems with HP cartridges. I have contacted the company and am waiting for their response. It was easy enough to change chips and they provided you with the tools. My chip was a little harder to remove than the instructions said, so maybe they've since made it harder to remove the original HP chips. But now that it's out, it will be easy to replace with a new one when needed. My bad rating is…

Great print quality, but get some metal tweezers.

The print quality of these cartridges appears to be OEM but at a much more attractive price. They fit exactly like the originals but note that you will need to remove and install the HP chip from your old cartridges. This is a little tricky, and I suggest getting a pair of long medical or hobby tweezers (not curved end tweezers for home use), preferably metal, with a serrated inner surface for gripping. Hemostasis or tweezers will also work, just don't break the chip. Work in a well-lit area…

HORRIBLE - DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY!

I can't stress this enough: DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THESE REPLACEMENT CARTRIDGES! THEY ARE COMPLETE GARBAGE! I'm a student and in the process of printing out some notes on the skeletal system when my original HP toner cartridges eventually decided to fail. Don't worry I thought to myself I'm ready for that because I bought a pack of 4 True Image High Yield Toners and saved a ton of money compared to OEM - how smart am I? Not right. Totally, absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, WRONG. I…

Waste of money - Edit - Company fully refunded

The product was difficult to install but I could deal with it if it would save me a ton of money compared to branded printer cartridges. However, after installation, the printer insisted that the printer was still low on toner and would overcompensate for ink. Everything printed very darkly to the point where you couldn't see the images or faces in the photos and then the printer said it was running low on ink supplies (because it still hasn't realized that new ink cartridges were installed). ,

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Doubt

$122 vs. $400? Certainly not. Using a color laser has always been an expensive undertaking. When you bought your printer, things didn't look so bleak because it came with a set of toner cartridges - until you realized those cartridges are usually "starter" units. I remember that a set of "regular" replacement toner cartridges for my Kyocera cost more than the printer itself! It's not that bad with the HP Color Laserjet Pro M283fdw, but a full set of genuine, high-yield cartridges costs over…
