Moderately accurate results for digital thermometers

When my high quality, fancy, very expensive DCS wall oven started giving inconsistent results (sometimes too much, sometimes not enough), I decided to get a thermometer to check it . This Cooper-Atkins got a perfect rating from Cook's Magazine and was reasonably priced so I gave it a try. When it showed an inconsistency with the oven's set temperature, I called an oven repairman, who used his own high-tech digital thermometer to check my oven. And guess what? Surprisingly solid budget.

I ordered 2 of these to use on my smokers and charcoal grills. They're fairly accurate and useful for quick readings, both typically read about 5F colder than my Maverick ET733 sensors at 225F and about 7-8F cold at 325F. At 550 F they read about 10-15 degrees colder than the most accurate, but not bad. This also applies to several cooks. In comparison, my lid-mounted grill thermometers are up to 30 degrees (too high) at colder temperatures and up to 70 degrees at 550 F compared to the…
