They are suitable for both cotton and fleece blankets. The clasps are strong enough to hold together but easily come apart in the wash. I haven't washed my duvets with it but I have a feeling it will hold up well. A king size comforter needs more than just corners, I buy a few more sets to fill in more than just 4 corners.

The downside to ironing is that the circle tends to show through the fabric. I used to use foam coated clips to hold the duvet in place. This caused corners to jam, which has always annoyed me. I bought two sets of these fasteners for a duvet.
