This is a great and reputable Corsair power supply

I have been using Corsair power supplies for 13 years now and have never had a single problem with a unit. I've built one around me (including several cars for family and friends). I have a couple of old x58 I7-980x computers that have been in constant use for ten years and are running on an older AX1200, the same big rebuilt power supply as the HX1200. Like the old AX1200, this HX1200 is mainly built with high quality Japanese capacitors. Aside from this power supply being 80+ Platinum…

Pros
  • 10 year warranty backed by legendary Corsair technical support and customer service
Cons
  • Out of fashion

This is a big and serious Corsair PSU

Pros
  • 135mm FDB fan with Zero RPM mode: almost silent operation at light loads. 8 PATA connector
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

1200W at your service

I bought a 1200W PSU ? This power supply is deeper than a standard ATX power supply. Very good power supply, looks solid. I get 87% efficiency, other reviewers report higher efficiency, needs a little more research. System, anyway I just took a mini-USB cable (I didn't use the one that came with it) out of the computer and plugged it into an external USB 2.0 port, bingo! If you want to get the fan spinning, select GPU Temp in the group, play around, and you'll get it spinning. UPDATE: I figured

Pros
  • 10-year warranty: backed by legendary Corsair technical support and customer service
Cons
  • Some bugs

4 year recap, my system blew up

I built a system with this PSU in 2016 and now I think it's the motherboard culprit -Frying was. From day one it had a weird performance when there were issues and the system also sometimes lost performance, sometimes during use, sometimes not. I never knew what the problem was or how to reproduce it, but instability has always plagued this essential workstation computer. Given the CPU and single GPU I installed, I probably didn't need a power supply larger than 500-600W. I particularly…

Pros
  • 80 Plus Platinum: Runs slower and uses less power than less efficient PSUs
Cons
  • No power
