The clip is made of retro-coated metal as shown. There is no plastic here! I expect it to last longer than a bike. It's loud enough, but I've had bigger bells. I think it's because it's a "mini" version. I assume a full sized bell will be louder and lower pitched than this one. I don't know if the driver of a large
