Almost ready for camping and hiking

Serious tool, could be more portable. I am a runner and I run in areas where there are mountain lions, packs of large coyotes the size of large German shepherds that would happily eat my little dog that runs with me. I've personally dealt with lions a number of times and let me tell you, you want something better than a defense knife! In fact, a gun would be perfect! This tomahawk is near perfect but could use some definite upgrades. First, it's still too heavy. Unless you're young and in good…

  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Hard to say

I can't say enough about the Hawk!

Feels good in the hand, the weight is perfect for the size, just over 30 cm long. The handles have a nice feel and are almost ergonomic, although I usually wear gloves for any outdoor work. I'm not a big fan of throwing tomahawks just because if you miss you not only have to go after him but also just holster your weapon/tool. I have several years of hand-to-hand combat experience as a Martial Arts Instructor in the Marine Corps as well as 10 years of tactical experience abroad and this is…

Too short but good for thrusting

If you need a hatchet, buy one. Tomahawks are intended as combat weapons, with range and speed as advantages over a knife. All these macho "little dick" hawks are too small and too heavy to defend themselves against wild animals like packs of wolves, dogs or coyotes. A big advantage over other falcons is that the very sharp head could be used directly as a broad thrusting weapon. If you smack a coyote in the nose with this, it will likely split its head in half. Using it this way negates the…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Can't remember

UPDATE: I use this regularly as a woodworking tool and am still very impressed with it in that regard, but recently discovered a serious flaw in the scabbard system: you can damage the edge or dent badly if you pull them out in a certain way and pull them hard. If you first pull straight down or with an ax, the edge will hit the bottom rivet in the shell, damage to me. Although minor and fixable on the stone, it did appear in the same spot as the photos in other reviews here. You have to pull…
