The sound is pretty good, the looks are great and yes everything is 60's plastic. I recommend playing records before the advent of digital recording (early 80's). Too much digital recording for this turntable. The main issue I faced initially was speed. it was the wrong note and the music sounded askew and with a lot of vibrato. I got this because my son has a Crosley model which has no playback problems and sounds decent for a standalone player. I thought since it has a better cartridge it would be a little bit better. It turns out we have trouble playing a lot of our records. Recordings with no visible flaws playing on my son's old device skip or have other issues on that device.
