The New Value King in the External SSD World

Preface: USB is such a standard of confusion, I categorize it as follows (2020): USB 4 (draft) = Thunderbolt 3 = 40Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 = USB 3.2 = SuperSpeed USB 20Gbps = 20GbpsUSB 3.2 Gen 2 = USB 3.1 Gen 2 = USB 3.1 = SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps = 10GbpsUSB 3.2 Gen 1 = USB 3.1 Gen 1 = USB 3.0 = SuperSpeed USB = 5 Gbps. USB 3.2 Gen 2 (old name USB 3.1) or just name 10 Gb/s as the transfer rate. Overview: The SSD consists of aluminum as a body and rubber on the sides, on the device there is a…

Make sure you're using the right cable and connector

I bought this device to use for video editing on my new Mac Mini. I first connected it with the USB-C cable I had. The transfer speeds were so discouraging that I started thinking of a plan B (37.7 MB/s write and 40.8 MB/s read). Luckily I tried the cable that came with it instead of sending in the SSD. Plugging into a USB port resulted in much faster speeds (419.8 MB/s writing and 426.4 MB/s reading). /s read).

  • Very good value for money

Very fast electronics

The external SSD is very fast in the Macbook Pro 2018. Read and write speeds reached 940 MB/s in my tests. Tried two USB cables, one included, and Revain Basic USB Type C to USB Type C 3.1 Gen 2. Both cables worked as expected. Almost 2 times faster than my Samsung T5. Copied over 500GB of photos to disk. Contrary to what others have said, he has not sunbathed. It is based on QLC technology. Although it's very fast with the nvme interface, it's still slow when writing large files. Not…

Know what you're getting into

This external SSD uses QLC memory with a small SLC cache. The QLC (Quad Level Cell) memory type is newer and cheaper to manufacture memory compared to the previous generation TLC (Triple Level Cell) memory, so they can offer this external 1TB for $150. If you regularly transfer small files under 13GB, this drive will work for you, but the SLC cache on this drive will not work with large files. I tried to transfer a 50GB file for testing purposes and it took almost 30 minutes while my WD…

Terrible write speed.

The product is easy to set up and install. The cable is not too short for my iMac use case. No obvious compatibility issues after reformatting to APFS. However, I buy these drives for the speed and was disappointed to find that it takes FOREVER to copy my data. The Blackmagic Speedtest shows the answer. You might as well buy a hard drive! I understand that these drives have a cache to improve performance, but either it's too small for my audio needs (capture for audio capture) or there are…
