Value and Quality - Networking Products

I bought this router to replace an old D-Link router that broke, this one actually works better than my old one as it's faster and has better coverage in the whole house.

Great hardware, works great with OpenWrt

Bravo D-Link for creating a default random password! I just signed up through the web interface and installed the best (and free!) operating system from openwrt.org, so I can't comment on the software, but the hardware works great.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Socket required

Thanks to the minimal Openwrt distribution for embedded systems, this device now runs real Linux. It works fine as a SOHO wireless router and I can configure this device with CLI with ssh2 access, better than the original GUI. I installed this toy with Python 3 and I'm experimenting with network automation with Ansible, so I'm integrating a DIR-869 (low-end device) into a network programming lab with professional network devices (Cisco, Juniper, Cumulus and Arista). Results: I am impressed with

Pros
  • Quick replacement
Cons
  • Almost never

OpenWRT but connection problems

I was able to easily install and configure OpenWRT. I have to restart the device every few days because the devices won't connect, but I don't know if this is a hardware or software issue.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Secret

Wi-Fi is not stable unless you reserve your Wi-Fi devices using DHCP.

Use as a router. You may need to use DHCP reservations. It's hidden on the main page. On the main page click on Clients and there you will see connected devices. Click the pencil icon to edit your device's Mac address and save it with a dedicated IP that should stabilize your WiFi connection. The Dlink configuration menu has been reduced to very few settings compared to the GUI they used for older routers. Also tried openwrt. Couldn't connect it to my charter mode with OpenWRT, so back to the…

Get Computers & Accessories

Excellent router It took less than an hour to set up and install, including adding the Vasio TV cameras. Very happy with the router so far.

Cons
  • Sad hardware

Big! Networking products

This device has completely changed our internet! Our old router kept cutting out the internet. Now that it's connected to our cable modem, all of our devices are "locked" to the internet. Setup was SO easy! simply a great unit in every respect!

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Something is wrong

Yes, D-Link's stock firmware is terrible, but in terms of functionality, this thing is pretty decent for the money. The main purpose of this purchase was to find something better than my current Arris SBG6900, which is a great modem but not as great a router. The AC speed is faster with D-Link and the Wi-Fi connection hasn't dropped since I've had this thing. Now if I had to mess with the D-Link factory firmware I would probably only give it three starts, but this router is DD-WRT compatible…

Pros
  • An Absolute Legend
Cons
  • High Price

Great OpenWrt/LEDE router

Awesome router after installing OpenWrt/LEDE on it. I bought this router because it supports OpenWrt, has dual band wireless and gigabit ports. So I would be happy if it worked the same as other routers I've bought. Instead, this router is one of the best routers I've used, especially in this price range. The range is fantastic and I haven't had any issues with it. I've seriously considered buying a second one for my parents to upgrade their router.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
