D-Link DWL-G120 for network adapter

I have read all the reviews about D-Link DWL-G120 and some love the product and some hate it. I have two of these products and they work perfectly. However, we once had a problem when we bought a 2.4GHz cordless phone and had the same experience. So they returned it and that was the end of the problem. Perhaps some of these issues are occurring for the same reason or someone close by. Maybe this helps someone?

Pros
  • understandable even for old people

it works; limited range

Friday, January 19, 2007 2:48 p.m. I received two of these. They are *definitely* less sensitive than the two DWL-122's I already had. The G120s were practically unusable in the "front" room here in my computer loft where the 122s worked perfectly. The G120s worked fine in the "backroom" so of course I swapped them out and all is good. The wireless access point is under the ceiling in the middle of the house. The "bad" distance to him is about 26 feet; well, 13'.

Excellent Signal: Network Adapter

I have a D-Link 120 wireless adapter and have had no problems with it. I love it! I have a Dell computer, I'm two floors away from a router and I get 100% power. This is a must! For anyone not getting perfect strength, try going into your wireless network settings - right-click your connection and select Properties. Go to the "Wireless Network" tab and uncheck "Use Windows to configure wireless network settings". This keeps you online at all times.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick

Works well but range isn't very strong, and yes - forget TIVO

This works great on my desktop computer. I get a "low" signal averaging 24 kbps when my wifi router is about 40 feet away through two walls, one of which is brick. Next to it is my MacBook, which seems to be running at almost full power. It might not be fair to compare the two for a ranking, but this is a "benchmark" of sorts. And yes I tried it on my TIVO and it recognized it correctly and went through most of the setup and then didn't get an IP from DHCP. I tried using a static IP and it…

TiVo Issues - USB Network Adapter

I have an old TiVo Series 2 that has worked fine with a Linksys WUSB12 for a few years. I just installed a D-Link DWL-G120 adapter and it works fine. There were no problems. It connects to the TiVo service with no errors. Then I tried to transfer the recorded show to my computer. The transmission rate is a low 2 Mbit/s. The signal quality is excellent. (This distance is only 15 feet). That's half the speed of the WUSB12 B adapter. I was hoping for more speed with the D-Link G adapter. However…

Form over function in networking products

I originally bought the D-Link DWL-G120 because of its exceptionally beautiful design. Laconic, compact, smart. After all, I thought, all of these 802.11 wireless adapters are pretty much the same inside, right? Not right. I spent over three hours getting the DWL-G120 up and running on my Dell 4600C running Windows XP Professional. Although the adapter reported a WiFi signal in the 30-40% power range and 95-100% quality range, I was still unable to establish a stable internet connection with…

D-Link DWL-G800AP Wireless Extender Conflict

Before ordering any product from D-Link, it is advisable to call D-Link Sales at 877-453-5465. , and discuss with your sales representative what you will be installing and whether any D-Link components you will be purchasing will work together. Believe it or not, they can't. I learned it the hard way. I also found that D-Link tech support doesn't seem to be aware of compatibility factors either, which could explain their inability to resolve so many customer-reported issues. Compatibility…
