I originally bought the D-Link DWL-G120 because of its exceptionally beautiful design. Laconic, compact, smart. After all, I thought, all of these 802.11 wireless adapters are pretty much the same inside, right? Not right. I spent over three hours getting the DWL-G120 up and running on my Dell 4600C running Windows XP Professional. Although the adapter reported a WiFi signal in the 30-40% power range and 95-100% quality range, I was still unable to establish a stable internet connection with it. Ping Yahoo.com has always resulted in 50-100% packet loss. My other devices with built-in 802.11g worked fine on my network, so I knew something was wrong with the D-Link product. To test my theory, I bought a NetGear WG121 for about the same price as a D-Link set-top box and had my Dell online in less than 30 minutes. I think so. Let the buyer be alert.
