Great idea requires a little work

I didn't like my pony being distracted most of the time when I wanted to feed her instead of staying at work. He just seemed to be panicking a little because he ate breakfast too quickly and was just waiting for the afternoon to eat dinner. Well, now I can stuff him full and he grazes when he wants. The problem I had initially was that since he was used to eating so quickly from nervously waiting for food, he was able to rip the four seams at the end of the pouch so he could feed him normally .

Perfect for my horses

This is amazing. They do exactly what they are supposed to do. And I don't have to tie it to anything. I just toss them in a path or paddock (anywhere safe for them to eat off the ground). We get a lot of wind here in the winter so I probably won't be using them outside on the worst of days, but these bags are *heavy* even when empty so I'm sure they won't get blown away. I could agonize over the size of the opening, but in the end I think it's the right balance between small enough to slow…

Best Stable Supplies Item

I like it a lot. I can squeeze in 1 full flake out of a 1000 lb bale and I can definitely fit 4 flake out of a small bale. Closing the rope didn't seem that great, but I like it. This bag is very easy to stuff and close. I just thread the rope through the loops of the clasp and tie it in a knot at the end. I have about 6 inches of rope tail that I use to carry. I use it in my mare's stable and throw it directly on the ground. Sometimes she moves him, but it's not destructive or playful, so you…

Inexpensive but high quality slow feed hay bag

So far I am very satisfied with this slow feed. I would give this place 4.5 stars if I could. It's strong and well made, has tight stitching and holds 2/3 to 3/4 of a haystack, which is at least four meals for my horses. A whole bale would be too bulky for me. Filling the bag is easy - simply slide the bag over an upright hay bale, turn it over, cut and remove bale twine and remove as many flakes as will fit. The locking mechanism is original - several 2 inch long alternating loops that line up

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Almost never

Great for both difficult and easy keepers and big savers

We have 5 of these bags, one for each horse and the bags have quickly paid for themselves simply by saving on wasted hay. We live on feed and have a free choice of hay in ground-level bins, but it's impossible not to waste a lot and with stubborn keepers it's difficult to really gauge how much they're eating. The bags hold nearly 3/4 of a 60 lb bale and weigh about 45 lbs on average. My lighter horses eat a full bag in a day and a half with only a few handfuls of chaff left in their troughs. NO
