Derwent is the only tinted charcoal we could find there

A misleading ad when buying charcoal pencil sets. Descriptions (and even labels) start with "CHARCOAL set/pencil set". Then if you read the fine print, 1/3 of the set is charcoal, the rest is graphite. If you're familiar with charcoal, there really aren't any color options, at least not always. I searched a lot and Derwent was the only brand that offered every colour/shade. The reviews were great so we decided to give it a try. Perfect solution. A good set, well shaded, I like the thickness of…

Honestly you can't go wrong with most Derwent products, even if the prices can sometimes be a bit steep. Their tinted charcoal pencils are a godsend for the pastelist as the colors featured in their range are new and not found in the ordinary palette of pastels and pastels. That alone makes this set excellent, but these pencils also have good lightfastness, good dot retention, relatively soft application, and at least some ability to create nice blurring effects with water. Portrait and…

This was a present for my friend. I opened them up first to make sure the colors weren't duplicated. Colors are not listed in the description. I think it's important to know, especially when the whole set is $50. Of the 24 colors, 5 of them are white, light, medium and dark. You can buy them anywhere. I think it's a cop. So what you actually get is 20 "tinted" charcoal sticks. However, I looked at it and didn't think it was worth the price. I think pastels work much better, they're lighter…

fun to play! best art supplies, painting and art supplies

I finally tried these out by ordering them a few months ago. I warn you, be prepared to use a holder and watch where you put your hands, but that's pretty typical of any charcoal product. They remind me of pastels, they wear and work very similarly. They blended very well, the effect was much smoother than I expected. The tonal range is limited and muted, but that wasn't a disadvantage for me as I was initially only interested in black pencils for working out the details in ordinary charcoal…
