Description of π§ DEWALT DNP617 Compact Router with Centering Capability
Steel pin and; durable plastic cone allow for precise centering when changing or adjusting sub bases. Simply place pin in router collet, place cone on pin and; tighten screws on sub base. Easy to use. Quick to setup.
If you move and change baseplates, you will need to re-center the base when reinstalling. This will help both quickly and easily. It works great with a 1/4" collet, but the other end is smaller than 1/2" (why? That's a silly decision since 1/2" is the other standard size) so it works with the bigger size doesn't work .Also plastic so over time it can wear and loosen on the steel shaft - then you can buy another one.
Pros
Simply insert the pin into the router's collet, place the cone on the pin and; Tighten the screws on the mounting plate
Must buy! This makes centering your drill 100 times easier. To be honest I don't know how you would have done it without that centering cone. For the amount of money you spend to center the router bit, you save 10x more than aggregation. As for me, I don't use a router as often as some people, and I'm by no means an expert at using it. However, it's one of those little useful things that gives you a little more time to set up the devices and figure out exactly what you're doing.
The DeWalt DNP617 Centering Cone is well made from thick thermoplastic with a stepped steel shank. The cone is double-sided, so it can be used both above and below the base plate of the milling machine. The only thing it can't do is center a hole with a smaller diameter than the diameter of the shaft used with the cone itself. However, if you use this centering cone for base plates and standard guide bushes, you will have no problems. I would recommend this of several others currently inβ¦
I bought an extra base for my DeWalt DW611 router (the base that came with the router does not fit bushings). With this centering cone, I was able to place my new base exactly in the middle, aligned with the milling cutter. I'm confident I can use my bushings now knowing I'm in line with the router. In my opinion, without using a centering cone, it would be impossible to correctly align the base of the router with the router bit. I believe a centering cone would be required in other cases asβ¦
