Description of DiamondSure Granite Ceramic Porcelain Cutting Tools with Diamond Technology
Bonded Diamond Grit: Electroplate bonded diamonds for optimum diamond life. Nickel Plated: Reduces bit friction and heat build-up and inhibits rust. Grooved Tip Edge: Provides maximum surface area & increases water "churn" for tip lubrication. Tip Lubrication Hole: Provides optimum tip lubrication by allowing water flow in and out of bit. Core Extraction Hole: Special holes in back of the "Bell" allow easy removal of cores or plugs.
I've been told a diamond drill bit can penetrate tile. At least for us. Not as much. We eventually got it working, but we first had to hammer where we wanted to drill something else and then spend a lot of time and effort drilling it through the tile. We used porcelain stoneware (maybe that's the problem?). On a positive note the tile didn't crack or break and we ended up drilling holes.
Used for drilling porcelain bases as pilot holes for TAPCONS. Using water as a lubricant, this drill bit drills fast. The remaining depth was made with a standard hammer drill and a TAPCON drill. I found that TAPCONS had to be carefully installed since porcelain is harder than concrete, so I drilled the top 1/4" into porcelain before installing the TAPCON screw. Ordinary carbide drill bits will not drill porcelain. It looks like like the diamond head is ready for more holes.
I bought this because the other part I had just didn't work. When I got this thing it worked really well and drilled the first hole in about 3-5 minutes. When I went to do the other 2 holes it took longer. At the third hole I didn't seem to be halfway through the mark and then I noticed that half of the head had broken off at the hole. The only reason I didn't get 1 star was the price which worked but not long enough to get the 1 job I needed. (Installation of the toilet flange on the tile.)
