Excellent quality sharpener

I bought this rough stone along with some other DMT stones a while back and have become a big fan. This particular stone is very effective at restoring the edge, but what impresses me the most is the quality. The construction of the stone is solid and the tolerances are excellent. This will truly be a tool for me for life, which is an important factor when buying tools. This is a great example of a quality product made in the USA.

I bought this to re-bevel blades with my DMT straightener. I was concerned I should have roughly ordered XX instead, but now I know I don't need it. If you're trying to regrind something really hard like a D2 or a ZDP-189 you might need it, but I don't have anything above 58 or 60 HRC. , and has no problems with S30V and VG10. I can make a new bevel on any of my knives in minutes with minimal effort.

This stone makes the edge good enough for regular kitchen work. You need a very thin stone to get an edge that is almost very sharp. The diamond stone is apparently expected to leave a slightly rough edge. It cuts so fast it leaves tiny gouges in the beveled edge. Update 11/05/10 I have noticed a potentially significant downside to using diamond stones to
