🔧 Dorman 14073 Transmission Shift Cable Bushing: An Essential Replacement for Selected Models Review

Very easy to install. The outer diameter of the sleeve is .009" larger than the 3/8" bit, so you will need to wiggle the bit a bit. Not too much because you're drilling through plastic. I made a tight landing and she eased into gear. This saved me $30 and a few hours of work from not having to install a new patch cord.

Lifeguard. I wasn't sure if it would work, but it did. You will need to knock out or carefully drill (plastic only) the old bushing at the end of the shift cable and insert this in its place. It doesn't have instructions, but it's easy enough and saved me a ton of $$$$ in new cables and labor. My shift cable bushing had just worn out and kept falling off the shifter on the transmission. This brilliant renovation saved me $150 at work and more. Instead of replacing the entire transmission cable, simply remove the old grommet, put in a new one and install the C-clamp. I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500 and it suits me perfectly. I used a 5/8 bit to carefully remove the old buckle to make sure the overall hold wasn't too big. Then secure it with large pliers and install the C-clip. See attached photos.
