No replacement

Update: It's been 2.5 months and the boot is already broken. Don't waste your money. Bought to replace a worn, crumbling factory version. This one was so sturdy that it broke from its mounts and never stayed in place. Either do without it or go to the OEM.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Some bugs

Won't snap, ripped in first 2 months

Like everyone who has complained, mine doesn't stay in place either. Looks good as long as I don't move the car at all. Very bad porter design. Update: Loses another star because the boot broke after just over a month. I'd be better off with the old one.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Exchangeable

Not as easy as described

Excellent value for money. It's not that easy to install. I haven't completed all the steps required for installation. According to the Hanes repair manual, you need to remove the shifter column and slide the dust boot from underneath. I had an unorthodox approach. I made a small cut on the back to put it on the pillar. Later I glued the cut side with superglue and then applied a small layer of black silicone to the cut. Went like clockwork!

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Not what I expected from Dorman

I have been buying Dorman products for many years. Before that there were no major problems. This product was definitely terrible. I bought one and it didn't last and the boot broke. Whenever the shifter was moved to D, it popped out of the steering column shroud. Request a refund with a replacement. Received the replacement quickly. However, the same problem occurred. I sent these back and will be getting one from the dealer soon.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Expandable

The boot has a couple of tabs that are used to hold the boot in place. However, they are either too small or too flexible because the trunk keeps slipping out of the plastic steering wheel cover. Any light tap will pop it out, including a light touch when removing the key. It pops up almost every day. In addition, after 8 months of use, the rubber no longer sits snugly on the shift lever (see fig.).

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Can't recommend, design quality needs improvement

Cheap fake. Bought this product when the shifter column shaft broke as the original shaft had a good hole in it. Easy enough to install once you removed the speaker switch, but the item won't stay in place after installation like the original2. Bad copy of the original design. The rubber is nice and thick, but the tabs that hold it in place don't hold it well as it has to be pushed back into place with every gear change. I can't say I've had any luck with Dorman products. I think you get what…

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Protection
