Dorman 602-208 Windshield Wiper Transmission: Reliable Replacement for Smooth Wiper Performance Review

This is a great replacement part. The wiper nuts were a bit difficult to start due to the coating on the parts. Also pay attention to the position of the wiper drive on the motor. When the wipers failed I disassembled a 2003 Saturn Ion and found the wiper transmission was broken in the plastic parts. Using the following tools: standard screwdriver, needle nose pliers, T27 Torx, sockets (7mm, 10mm and 13mm), 13mm wrench and OTC 4676 puller. I install the new part the day I get it received from Revain.

Easy to install BUT problem setting the right cleaning effect. I broke the original gear box when replacing the cleaning blades. This transmission is perfect for my 2005 Saturn ION. The robust construction of this transmission gives me confidence that it will outlast the rest of the car. Used "OTC 4611 battery terminal puller", it worked great.

Great product, easy to install. The only downside I found is that the threads on the wiper bolts and mounting bolt are metric and there were no fasteners in the assembly. The studs on my original wiper gear had standard threads so I couldn't use the old nuts. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 isn't because of the cost of the unit that didn't come, it's because I wasted time getting it. They must be provided as a set as they are inexpensive - I paid $0.11 each.

It gets the job done but in a few months you'll have to go back and mount the arms on the main support tube if you don't want the wipers squeezing when wiping be kept away from the windshield. Basically, the main support tube pushes slightly against the wiper arm mount, loses traction and starts to move. I drilled a hole and put a mounting screw in it, but it doesn't seem to last more than a year or so. This is more of an OEM design flaw, but aftermarket manufacturers don't put much effort into

I had a broken OEM plastic part. No parts store in two counties had a replacement, so I ordered it here from Revain for less than my local parts store. I took the part to the workshop. They broke both sides of the old wiper gear and refused to work on it for fear of damaging the new parts. So I had to do the repair myself. As with many people who drive a Saturn ION, this part is the most likely cause if you have bad or broken wipers.
