looks a bit worn and sharp but a used Mini I bought (Mini R50 BASE NON S) had a hex part broken so I had to replace it. I was concerned it would not fit or leak but I follow the instructions for lubricating the seal. I haven't driven the Mini for long, but I drove it a bit and there was no oil leak. no leaks after 1 month. will update once i get over 10 miles which i'm doing now. Again, this only applied to the NON S mini of the R50 base model.

This is not the right filter for a Mini Cooper R50 before 07/2004. Pre 07/2004 Mini models have a metal spring with plastic cage and are smaller than post 07/2004 models Seems to be a good canister but did not fit my Mini Cooper. It starts to twist and then gets very stiff before the gasket touches the oil filter housing. I would think this would be a godsend for the 07/2004 post date.
