They are perfect for my Flat Head Collie. I can't use a regular collar/leash when walking him because he can slip out of almost everything I've tried, including martingales. Usually the best way to get a leash that will do the job well is to keep it simple. Before that I tried 2 glide lines. One of them was advertised mainly for its convenience.
