Carbon Steel Round Adjustable Die is desired for improved wear life. Round Dies are chamfered on both faces. One side has a 2 to 3 thread chamfer for threading, the other side has a 1 to 1-1/2 thread chamfer for threading close to a shoulder. Adjustment is obtained by a fine pitch screw which forces the sides of the die apart, or allows them to spring together. The slot is beveled so that when the dies are used in a machine holder the adjusting screw can be removed and adjustment made by the adjusting screws in the holder.
Used it to clean a badly worn tie rod head bolt. The adjustment screw allowed me to move the die back and forth and gradually clean up the threads. Saved me from replacing the tie rod. And yes, it was my fault.
Overall it worked for what I needed, but it could just as easily have been called disposable or disposable. It does NOT have a clearance adjustment screw as stated in the description. If that were the case it would probably take a lot longer since you could cut the material incrementally.
The die received was packaged with the correct Drill America part number but the correct product was not inside. The matrix should be adjustable, but it isn't. Sent back and received the same wrong stamp on the second order. Maybe a good matrix but not what I needed or ordered.
