Description of Echogear 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch: Expand Your Network with Auto-Negotiation, Full Duplex Control, and Auto MDI/MDI-X

Expand your network's number of gigabit Ethernet ports with this unmanaged switch. 5 RJ45 ports support newer devices with speeds of up to 1Gpbs (1000mbps). Also backward compatible to work with 10mbps & 100mbps. Plug & play setup couldn't get any easier. Just power it up and add up to 5 ethernet cables. Compact design is easy to keep out of sight. Integrated mounting holes even let you hang it on the wall. Auto-negotiation ensures the highest possible speed between devices connected to the Ethernet splitter. Supports 10mbps, 100mpbs, & 1 Gigabit (1000mbps) connections. Full-duplex flow control enables devices to send and receive information at the same time, reducing network latency without packet loss. This Ethernet hub has got your back. Not all ethernet cables are the same, but you don't need to worry about what type you have. Auto MDI/MDI-X technology makes both crossover and straight-through cables compatible with your wired network.

Just plug and play to add more ports to your router

For performance reasons, I installed a wired RJ-45 cable between my router in the office and my TV in the living room. Over time, additional devices (such as the Roku set-top box) were connected to my TV, which also benefited from a wired connection. Unlike running any other cable, this device was installed at the end of the cable where the TV was located, converting one port into four additional ports. Much easier (and cheaper) than using multiple RJ-45 cables.

Just what I needed

When ATT switched to fiber for our U-verse service, I found that my old MyCloud drive was no longer available. The connection was in another room, directly on the router, and my PC is in the living room. I researched online and found out that this is a problem with the old drives and that this should fix the problem. It happened instantly. My drive was connected directly to the router. I plugged this switch into a router instead of a drive cable, then plugged a drive into that switch and all…

High quality, future-ready Gigabyte switch

This switch is compact and portable. Absolutely no noise and works great. I wish it was metal and it was a little easier to unplug the ethernet cable from the ports. Not that it's a bad thing as my modem is plastic and a bit harder to unplug and I've been using it for a few years now. I'm just not sure why this one (port 5) connects a bit slow, all other ports connect and are immediately recognized as active. Port 5 takes about 20 seconds or more to become active and transfer data. Great switch

Pros
  • Award-winning design
Cons
  • Useless features

Broken and defective

I bought two of these 8 port switches. I have built a much more complex and working network than my home network. But my network has grown beyond 5 computers, 4 3TB external NAS hard drives, a black and white laser printer, a color laser printer, a wireless access point – to name just the main components, all of which require a network connection and connectivity, if necessary, to each other. Everything worked fine with the network, there were no problems, and at least the last two years there…

Pros
  • Fast replacement
Cons
  • No insurance
