Good for the money paid. It could be better.

Update almost a year later: Two stars deducted as there is still no remote access profile for Fire TV 4K and the original remote is weak and only works if you look directly on the left speakers, which is impractical. First review: These are good speakers for the money. The speakers look very nice but definitely don't rock your room, although the quality is okay. I've paired them with a Klipsch subwoofer and have had satisfactory results and despite what I've read about them not controlling the…

Pros
  • Not just usable for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Good, but not great

Good sound and volume in a small, affordable package.

I'm very happy with the purchase of these speakers. They deliver a lot of quality sound for the price and size. I bought them to play mostly rock music on the turntable. For tiny lunch box speakers they are well balanced. I can get pretty good highs and lows from the built-in laptops and they don't sound overly muddled or shrill. The volume is good too. They're not loud enough to get angry and drown out the sound of the cops knocking on your door, but to relax around the house I never turn the…

The balance, tone and overall output pressure are well above its weight!

Best value for money! I looked through reviews and looked for affordable speakers ($100-$200). I recently bought a new Audio-Technica LP60 turntable (which I also highly recommend!) and I needed speakers that would improve on an entry level (albeit high quality) turntable. You have exceeded my expectations from FAR. The bass is warm - doesn't distort but fills the room. They have separate treble and bass EQs that are adjusted with quality knobs, and these things can be rotated given their size.

Good presence and stereo field for the price

I bought these speakers for use in a small recording studio for monitoring, mixing and general playback purposes. I usually mix with headphones, but I prefer to have a decent pair of speakers to ensure a regular stereo can play the recording well. After driving the speakers for several hours with the 3rd gen Focusrite Scarlett 18i8, I found them to be far superior to their weight - nice tight bass with no judder, good stereo imaging and crisp resolution with no creaking. Center and lots of…

Good frequency response

TWO SETS OF RCA INPUTS = CONVENIENT: I like that there are two sets of RCA inputs. That means you can connect your TV and laptop at the same time without worrying about switching sources. (So both are essentially connected and this mixes audio between the two sources. Whatever is playing just plays!) NO BLUETOOTH = OK: I've been fighting between these and the Bluetooth sources. After reading reviews of devices with Bluetooth, I decided not to use Bluetooth as it is less reliable than a wired…

  • Expensive but decent

  • Legacy model

The best ratio of price and quality!

I bought these to replace my Edifier r1700 kit which was moved from my desktop to my TV. I didn't want to write a review comparing the two sets, but I think people would be interested to know about the $50 price difference between the two sets. So here it is. Build Quality: To be honest they are about the same. Both sets are solid speakers. The 1280's controls feel a bit cheaper and not as attractive. Aesthetics: This should go to the 1700s. The paper skittles of the 1280's are not as…

Pros
  • Pleasing
Cons
  • Compatibility

I use them as near field monitors in my makeshift studio. The sound quality is great, especially for the price (which is why I bought another set). However, as others have said, the subwoofer output is "strange". I assumed it was a subwoofer output, so mono. So I bought a 3.5mm RCA mono cable and plugged it into the line in of a Yamaha subwoofer. Nothing. Nobody else seems to have mentioned "mono" and the manual only says "3.5mm", so I tried a 3.5mm stereo to RCA cable. I tried connecting the…

Popular speaker update 2020

*Edited to include subwoofer output information. ** Rating increased from 4 to 5 stars. explanation at the end. It appears to be a slightly updated version of the popular and widely used R1280t speaker. There are hundreds of reviews of this column on the Internet, both from professionals and consumers, so I will not rewrite them. The main differences are (1) the addition of a subwoofer connection with appropriate circuitry to provide an electronic crossover* when a sub is connected, and (2) the
