Costs money! suitable for networking products

I received the adapter within 2 days of purchase and it was great. I plugged it into a USB 2 port on my old Dell M6400 laptop and then tried loading the driver from the minidisk that came with the adapter. My DVD player/recorder just slides in, no drawer so I couldn't use the mini CD. Luckily there was a newer version of the driver on the EDIMAX site so I downloaded and installed it, restarted my laptop (required) and wow-lah, it connected to my 802.11ac router with no problems. Speed was onlyโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Can't remember

Works but very crappy software driver and support. You can get it to work, but the speeds aren't as advertised. See below. Updated Review: Remember this is USB 2.0 so there is a speed bottleneck even when connected to 802.11AC. Claimed speeds are ".to". 300 Mbit/s at 2.4 GHz and 866 Mbit/s at 5 GHz. On a 2012 MacBook Pro with Mojave 10.14 I get 173.5 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 144.4 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. For comparison, when I use the built-in Wi-Fi, which is 802.11n, I get 217Mbps on 5GHzโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging

Hmm, could be better

(This review is for the Edimax AC1200 EW-7822ULC adapter) Note. This device is the same as Asus USB-AC53 Nano. Edimax makes both devices and they are essentially the same device. I went with Asus drivers instead. I also tried the Edimax drivers which appear to be the same. Given my experience with wireless devices, I expected this device to not perform as well based on the tests I ran on it. But it was a little worse than I expected. In this review I will mention TX and RX. TX is the signalโ€ฆ
