Great educational tool but terrible quality

I bought this to record physics demonstrations at home during eLearning time as I'm a physics teacher and I still wanted to, that my students have a good lab experience despite being at home in front of a computer screen with no lab supplies. We also use these boxes at school so I knew the quality was poor and bought them anyway despite the ridiculous price for some plastic parts. Filters burn through easily, the light used is too strong for what it's intended for, the focusing sucks and…

READ THIS BEFORE BUYING.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY!(1) Be prepared to spend twice as much to get a functional light box. Although it is mentioned in the description, this product does not include an AC adapter and since the light they emit uses "banana plugs" you cannot just use any AC adapter. In fact, you can't use most of them. I ended up having to go to Fry's Electronics to buy it. The cheapest of them cost MORE than this whole set. Again, this isn't a false advertising issue, I just had no idea how much it would…

Pros
  • The ideal kit to teach students all aspects of geometric optics and the study of light.
Cons
  • Unbelievable Price

This is a good under $70 set with some caveats. Pros: Good range of lenses and they are opaque enough for students to see rays of light coming through the lens and entering and exiting. Mixing the colors of the light is acceptable, just enough for students to see the general idea. The beam part of the box works well. Comes with a good selection of color slides. High education costs. My students could not only see what is happening in the lenses, but also experiment with different combinations…

Pros
  • Set was designed and tested by teachers in the USA
Cons
  • Crumpled
