I used this to replace a Bobcat 610 with a troublesome Delco externally controlled alternator. This thing charges at a more stable voltage and puts out more amps than the original. The only problem is that it takes a lot of RPM to excite itself. If the car doesn't get full throttle for a few seconds, it will never charge.

I didn't read carefully enough. Hidden in the buyers' questions is the claim that the generator is made in China. Nowhere else in the product description or DB Electrical's description does it say it's made in China. Apparently the generator was shipped from China to J&N Electric and then to DB Electrical. Installed the generator while it was working.

Yes, I gave (5) stars! This is a well made and complete alternator. I used this to convert an old alternator system to an alternator system. The car I installed this item in takes 1500 cold crank amps to start and charges these batteries very well. Plus I have extra power to boot! Now I can install newer and updated options on the car which will make my life much easier.

Can't complain. I paid half of what they want at the local auto parts store and the quality looks as good or better than what I put on my other tractor. The pulley groove is too small for a type A belt, but it fits in the groove and still turns it well because on my tractor it draws less than a quarter of the output current of this thing. If you are installing it in a car with a lot of accessories I would look for a different pulley. Still worth the money.

Tried to find an alternator at the local dealership and they wanted over 100 found this unit and arrived quickly! my block to the new block (easy enough with a socket and switch) The only problem was that the wiring went to the engine block making installation difficult. Some of the standard 3-wire generators have wire connections in different places. Works well - outputs 14.6v and charges reliably - for a few months now. Ship application, Cummins 6b, installed on the exhaust side.

It definitely can't handle very high currents so make sure your battery is fully charged before starting the engine and never use high current batteries like AGM or Optima as they will try to overcharge themselves charge too fast and it will overload this generator. If you start the engine and find that the voltage does not increase, try revving it once to start charging. Once you've done that, charging should work just fine. If this doesn't work, you may need to turn on the alternator manually
