Can read SMART and other information

Contrary to one of the best reviews of this product, this adapter's Realtek RTL9210 chipset is now supported by utilities like CrystalDiskInfo, which can provide SMART information as well as disk name, etc. (see photo). Just update to the latest version (v 8.9.0 at the time of writing 1/2021). I've also read a few complaints about the adapter not having real metal or other higher-quality materials than the competition, but these reviewers miss the point: other adapters in this price range ($20)

Hidden Gem: Computer Accessories and Peripherals

Very satisfied. There was concern about the placement of the thermal pads, but they aren't attached to the lid, they're optional, so I can easily use the factory-installed heatsink on the Adata XPG. Nice design overall, I'm not worried about the screwless assembly. I won't drop every second :) Nice Realtek RTL9210B controller (tested) with TRIM support. There is a jewel. The NVMe stick was immediately recognized by all PCs and my Rasp Pi 4 8Gb was able to boot from it. A hidden gem at a veryโ€ฆ

PS5 Incompatible - Hard Drive Enclosure

I bought this to use as external storage on my Playstation 5 with a WD_Black NVMe SSD. It works fine until the PS5 goes into sleep mode. When you turn your PS5 back on, you get an error message stating that the disc was removed incorrectly and needs to be restored. If this happens frequently, the drive can be damaged. I will send it back and look for something else.

Works for me on Linux

This case is easy to use and works as expected. I wouldn't use it more than a few times to swap drives as the slide latches are plastic. The cooling fin area appears to be the only metal on the case. I tested the speed on 3 different systems, all with a Silicon Power 2TB TLC NVMe SSD. The transmission speed of the SSD installed directly on the Z370 mainboard was around 2500 MB/s. All systems ran Linux Mint and hdparm was used to measure read speed. Both Type-A and Type-C connections were readโ€ฆ

Cannot go more than 40 megabytes per second

I installed my 1TB NVMe drive. (ADATA - XPG - GAMMIX Gaming S11 Pro at 3500/3000MB). In this case, it worked fine for a month at around 800 megabytes per second, but now it's not going over 40 megabytes per second. Tried to reformat the drive, no change. I put the drive in the second m.2 slot on the motherboard and it works fine there, so it must be like that. I've tried several high speed cables and my laptop and 2 desktops have USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports.

Nothing beats forty dollars. The Realtek RTL9210B chip is the key.

This is the ideal case for those who use it to swap ngff and nvme m.2 drives quickly and frequently. It is best to boot operating systems on traditional hard drives and use this enclosure to clone to an m.2 drive to ensure compatibility with older machines. I used this to install Windows 7 on an Intel Skylake system by first installing to SSD, then cloning to the m.2 drive, then installing the m.2 drive to the motherboard. The speed is as stated. Perfect for computers and accessories

I have an Asus ws x299 Sage motherboard with USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports and ASM3142 chipset. So far this box is working great. The speed is as fast as it should be and I've been using it heavily for the last week and no issues so far. The idle temperature is also very pleasant. Another case with the JMS583 had heat issues, but that's not the case. I hope it stays that way for a long time.
